Alexander Yakoniuk

Alexander Yakoniuk was born in 1975 into a family of musicians in Minsk (Belarus), where he studied with Prof. Larissa Kolos, Prof. Eduard Kuchinsky, Prof. Olga Parkhomenko, a pupul of David Oistrach and Prof. Anri Yanpolsky, pupil of Leonid Kogan. Alexander Yakoniuk completed his studies at the High School of Music in Cologne under Prof. Victor Tretyakov. He also followed Gennadi Provatorov’s Master classes in Orchestra conduction.

In 1992 Alexander Yakoniuk won the first prize at the National Belarus Violin Competition; in 1995 he got a silver medal with „New Belarus Quartet“ – as primarius – at the International String Quartet Competition in Cremona (Italy). Alexander Yakoniuk is also Laureate of International Competition “Music and Songs of Eastern Europe” (Minsk, 1995).

Alexander Yakoniuk played both as soloist and chamber music collaborator in Europe and in the US, beside that by german, italian and belarusian radio and TV (WDR, Radio Phönix etc.). He performed to critical acclaim with the Belarus State Symphony Orchestra, the Belarus State Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Philharmonic Rhine-Erft, Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen, Camerata Louis Spohr Düsseldorf and the New Rhine Chamber Orchestra Cologne. His interest for contemporary music is witnessed by his performance with Ensemble „MusikFabrik“ at the “Musikfest Berlin” and CD recordings of modern belarusian composers. In 2000 he founded Yakoniuk Quartet and the Orchestra Ars Millennium.

Alexander Yakoniuk took part to international Festivals such as: “Minsk Spring”, ”Belarusian Music Autumn”;  “Ete du Grand Jarden”, Haute-Marne, France; “Festival of Church Music”, Shaulai, Lithuania; “Festspieltreffen”, Bayreuth, “Bonner Sommer”, “Bergische Biennale New Music”, „Musikfest Berlin”, Germany. In 2007 he created the Ilfeld Music Festival in Germany.

Alexander Yakoniuk is a author of the book “Belarusian violin concerto”. He was a jury member of the “On Stage International Classical Music Competition 2015”.
