Hella Westendorf

Studied at the „Universität der Künste“ with Prof Rolf Koenen in Berlin, at the „Musikhochschule“ in Luebeck with Prof James Tocco and at the „Musikhochschule“ in Wuerzburg with Prof Andràs Hamary where she completed her „Konzertexamen“. The concerts she played include performances in Berlin and Paris, Liège and Aachen.

She was part of different ensembles for contemporary music in Berlin (Boris-Blacher-Ensemble, Berliner Sinfonietta). During this collaboration she participated in several debut performance in and outside of Germany as well as in the recording of several CDs. The masterclass for chamber music with Prof Walter Levin in Luebeck marked another step in her artistic development.

Throughout her carrier she was pianist with different orchestras such as the „Bamberger Symphoniker“, „Hamburger Symphoniker“, the „NDR-Rundfunkorchester“ and the „WDR-Rundfunkorchester.

During the time she worked with the „Junge Deutsche Philharmonie“, one of the most remarkable episodes was the world premier and CD-production of „Surrogate Cities“ with ECM Records where she worked together with the composer Heiner Goebbels.

Since 2007 she plays concerts with the „Koya-Quartett“ on a regular basis in Germany and abroad. They performed acclaimed piano quartets of Brahms, Schumann, Schostakowitsch and Fauré.

Her teaching career began during her studies and later on continued as division head for piano at the conservatory in Schwerin. Since moving to Aachen in 2001, where she and her family are living today, she is teaching at the „Städtische Musikschule“ where she once again became division head for piano.

In 2012 and 2014 she was invited to give masterclasses at the „Festival International de Piano“ in Tunis, Tunisia in collaboration with the „Goethe Institut“.

Over the years her students have participated in various competitions and won first prices at „Jugend Musiziert“ and at the „Van-Bremen“-competition in Dortmund.
