The ClaviCologne International Piano Festival announces the appointment of the distinguished Italian pianist Giuliano Mazzoccante as Artistic Director for its 2026 edition.
Born in Chieti, Mazzoccante is internationally recognized as one of the most distinguished musicians of his generation. He graduated with highest honors, distinction and special mention from the Conservatorio “L. Cherubini” in Florence and continued his refinement with some of the most influential masters of our time, including Lazar Berman. Over the years he has built a remarkable performing career that has taken him to major stages throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, appearing both as a soloist and in collaboration with leading orchestras.
A winner of more than fifty national and international competitions, his most significant awards include the prestigious Premio Venezia, the Arcangelo Speranza International Piano Competition, and the Tbilisi International Piano Competition. His artistry has been praised for its authority, stylistic awareness, and depth of interpretation, qualities that have made him a sought-after partner for chamber music collaborations with many eminent instrumentalists.
Parallel to his activity as a performer, Giuliano Mazzoccante has developed an equally important profile as an educator and cultural organizer. He has given masterclasses in institutions of the highest standing across Austria, Russia, the United States, Germany, Spain, Malta, and Italy, and has played a crucial role in the selection and mentoring of young musicians for international academies. His dedication to the artistic growth of new generations is also reflected in the numerous festivals and initiatives he has founded or directed, projects that consistently combine educational purpose with high-level concert activity.
His broad experience in artistic leadership, ranging from the direction of international music festivals to collaborations with major theaters and cultural institutions, brings to ClaviCologne a vision that unites tradition with openness to new ideas. Under his guidance, the 2026 festival aims to strengthen its position as a meeting point for cultures, schools of piano playing, and emerging talents from around the world.
The appointment of Giuliano Mazzoccante marks an important step in the continuing development of the festival. His artistic authority, international network, and passion for education promise an edition rich in inspiration, excellence, and meaningful encounters between masters, students, and audiences alike.
