Hisako Kawamura Joins ClaviCologne 2025 in Pescara for a Celebration of Piano Excellence

This summer, the enchanting city of Pescara, Italy, will once again become a hub of pianistic brilliance as it hosts the 12th edition of the ClaviCologne International Piano Festival. Taking place over five vibrant days in 2025, the festival promises an unforgettable celebration of piano artistry through inspiring masterclasses, world-class concerts, and an electrifying piano competition.

Among the esteemed faculty of this year's masterclasses, ClaviCologne is proud to welcome one of today’s most compelling pianists and educators — Hisako Kawamura.

Born in Nishinomiya, Japan, and raised in Düsseldorf, Germany, Kawamura’s musical journey has spanned continents and captivated audiences around the world. A laureate of some of the most prestigious international piano competitions — including the Concours Clara Haskil, A. Casagrande, G.B. Viotti, and the Queen Elisabeth Competition — she has earned acclaim for her poetic sensitivity, technical brilliance, and deeply personal interpretations.

Kawamura has performed with leading orchestras such as the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Wiener Symphoniker, and Czech Philharmonic, under the baton of conductors including Paavo Järvi, Vladimir Fedosseyev, Fabio Luisi, and Yuri Temirkanov. Her discography, released through labels such as RCA Red Seal, audite, and Coviello Classics, features masterful interpretations of Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Schumann, Debussy, and more.

Beyond the concert stage, Hisako Kawamura is a passionate educator. She currently holds a professorship at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen and regularly offers masterclasses at the Tokyo College of Music, guiding the next generation of pianists with the same dedication that defines her performance career.

Speaking ahead of her appearance at ClaviCologne 2025, Kawamura shared her excitement:

“I am truly delighted to be part of this wonderful journey with ClaviCologne. It is a unique opportunity to share music, inspiration, and artistic growth with passionate young musicians from around the world, in such a beautiful and culturally rich setting as Pescara.”

Participants and audiences can look forward to masterclasses led by Kawamura that promise not only technical refinement but also deep exploration into musical expression and interpretation. Her presence at ClaviCologne underscores the festival’s mission to foster excellence, mentorship, and international exchange in the world of classical piano.
