Michel Béroff to Lead Masterclasses at ClaviCologne 2026
Renowned French pianist and pedagogue Michel Béroff will join the faculty of ClaviCologne International Piano Festival 2026, where he is set to lead a series of distinguished masterclasses, offering young pianists a rare opportunity to learn from one of the most respected figures in the international piano world.
Widely celebrated for his exceptional interpretations—particularly of the French repertoire—Béroff rose to prominence after winning First Prize at the inaugural Olivier Messiaen International Piano Competition. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras under legendary conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein, and Pierre Boulez, among others.
An equally dedicated chamber musician, Béroff has collaborated with prominent artists including Martha Argerich and Barbara Hendricks, while also maintaining an active career as a conductor, leading ensembles such as the chamber orchestra of La Scala in Milan and the Orchestre National de Lyon.
His longstanding commitment to pedagogy is reflected in his tenure as Professor at the Paris Conservatoire, where he taught for over 25 years and shaped generations of prize-winning pianists. Today, as Professor Emeritus, he continues to give masterclasses worldwide and serve on the juries of the most prestigious international competitions, including the Tchaikovsky, Chopin, and Van Cliburn competitions.
Béroff’s extensive discography—spanning over five decades and more than 50 recordings—includes landmark interpretations of works by Liszt, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Ravel, and Debussy, earning him multiple Grand Prix du Disque awards and international acclaim.
His presence at ClaviCologne 2026 represents a significant highlight of the festival’s educational programme. Participants can expect insightful, high-level instruction rooted in profound musical understanding, stylistic refinement, and decades of artistic experience at the very highest level.
