Born in the Soviet Union, Pavel Gililov’s exceptional musical talent was discovered early on by Dmitry Kabalevsky. In 1972, while still a student, he won the prestigious Moscow National Piano Competition. His success continued in 1975 when he received a prize at the renowned International Chopin Competition in Warsaw.
From 1982 until his retirement in 2013, Gililov was a professor of piano at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne. He is also a professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Throughout his illustrious career, Gililov has been a prominent figure in the music world, hosting masterclasses across Europe and the Far East, and serving as the Chairman of the Jury and Artistic Director of the International Telekom Beethoven Competition in Bonn.
Regarded as one of the most influential piano experts of his generation, Gililov has played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of numerous pianists over the past few decades. His performances across the globe and his numerous CD recordings have earned critical acclaim from both audiences and critics alike. Gililov has been invited to perform at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Berliner Festspiele, the Wiener Festwochen, the Edinburgh and Schleswig-Holstein Festivals, and the International Music Festival of Buenos Aires.
In addition to his solo career, Pavel Gililov is deeply committed to chamber music. Since 1997, he has been the artistic director of the “Sommerclassics” international chamber music festival, further solidifying his position as one of the key figures in classical music today.
