Pietro De Maria to Lead Masterclasses at Clavicologne Piano Festival
Renowned Italian pianist Pietro De Maria will join the distinguished faculty of the Clavicologne Piano Festival, where he is set to lead masterclasses as part of the 2026 edition.
Internationally respected for both his artistry and pedagogical excellence, De Maria first rose to prominence after receiving the Critics’ Prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1990. He went on to win First Prize at several prestigious international competitions, including the Dino Ciani – Teatro alla Scala Competition in Milan, the Géza Anda Competition in Zurich, and the Mendelssohn Competition in Hamburg.
As a concert pianist, he has appeared with leading orchestras around the world and collaborated with celebrated conductors such as Roberto Abbado, Myung-Whun Chung, Daniele Gatti, Marek Janowski, and Gianandrea Noseda, among many others.
Highly regarded for the depth and breadth of his repertoire, De Maria is also known as the first Italian pianist to perform the complete piano works of Chopin in a series of six public concerts. In recent years, he has focused extensively on the works of Bach and Beethoven, presenting landmark cycles including The Well-Tempered Clavier, the Goldberg Variations, the complete 32 Piano Sonatas, and the five Beethoven concertos.
Alongside his performing career, De Maria is a dedicated educator. He is an Academician of Santa Cecilia and teaches at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Academy of Music in Pinerolo.
